One Free Domain:Register.com

Register.com

Register.com is giving away one free domain. In order to qualify for this free domain, you must have a credit card. Don’t think they’re losing money; They do this promotion, to prey on the people who don’t turn off domain autorenew, which is initially on. If you don’t cancel that option, they charge 35 dollars for each domain renewal! I had trouble turning this feature off: The website didn’t allow me to, so I had to call them. To reemphasize the fact that they love to renew domains, they sent me an email after I got the function off.

We’ve noticed you’ve made a change to your SafeRenew settings and we want to make sure that you understand that disabling this important feature could result in your losing this service.

DON’T LOSE YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS
Every year, hundreds of people lose their Websites and other online services simply because they forgot to renew. That’s why we offer SafeRenew – an automatic renewal service to help protect your online presence. We encourage all of our customers to keep their SafeRenew settings enabled all the time.

Seriously, if you’re running a fairly successful online business would you really forget to renew? Probably not. What this email should be saying is “This automatic renewal service will take your money, and we love doing that!”.

In the end, I can’t complain because I got a free domain
. Register.com is just playing the same game that every other domain registrar is: Try to hustle the average Joe into auto renewing domains and surprising them with a charge next year.
